I have some good and bad stories about sheep and goats. Sheep have their babies in the dead of winter. I had to chase a goat away from eating a cloth top roof on a car once. Sheep will get tangled in a fence or brush when frightened, goats usually run towards the aggressor. I used to raise goats and one buck used to get loose and ram the front door of the house to get in. I am always delighted to see rack of lamb on the menu at Steak and Brew! The picture of the devil in the form of a goat gives me the creeps. I like both Chevon (goat meat) and lamb, but my favorite by far is lamb. Ok enough stories…..

Todays’ gospel is Matthew 25: 31-46. It is called the story of the sheep and goats. It tells about Jesus’ second coming when He will sit on His glorious throne surrounded by all of the angels. He will separate us like sheep and goats. The sheep, aka good guys, will be on His right and the goats, aka bad guys, will be on His left. Then Jesus will say to the people on His right come since you are blessed by My Father, take your inheritance in eternal life. Verse 35 and 36 read, “ For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.” Then the righteous will ask Lord when did we do all of these things to you? And Jesus answered in verse 40 which is KEY, “ Truly I tell you, whatever you did for the least of my brothers and sisters, you did for me.” GET READY…….. Then Jesus will say to the goat people depart from me you cursed people and go into the eternal fire prepared by the devil and his angels. And the unrighteous will ask when Lord did we see you hungry and thirsty and naked and sick and alone? And Jesus answered when you didn’t do these things for the least of my brothers and sisters you did not do it for me.

So what are we to do with all of this information? Who are we to be sheep or goats? I think we all know the answer! So it is time to get out there and do it! AMEN!
